Expectation vs Reality; My Reality ☕️

There’s a standard; an expectation of how skin should look. It’s viewed all over the media, advertisements, social media, etc (hence why it’s a billion dollar industry)! Everyone desires clear(er) skin. But what is portrayed in the media, isn’t real.

Its Ideal!

But not real.

Photoshop is real though. ☕️

Why be honest when you can be marketable?

The reality is everyday people naturally have dark circles, hyper-pigmentation, blemishes, moles, crow’s feet, age spots, wrinkles, cellulite, etc. But that’s not "marketable". These companies would not be making billions if they tried to package and sell you realness. We already have “real”. We’re trying to escape it.

We desire to have the “perfect” “polished” look and we’ll do anything to achieve it (or at least, our perception of perfect). People inject foreign objects and chemicals, undergo unnecessary, life threatening surgeries to look like whats, ultimately, the UN-achievable; perfection. Hell, the Kardashians have gotten the work done and they STILL hire an editor to “perfect” their images. It’s never enough.

To be honest, images I’ve posted in the past, I too, have retouched; even when my skin wasn’t that bad. I still just wanted to portray “flawlessness” (from a creative standpoint, of course👀😅😬).

But its ok! It is alright. We’re living in a day and age where you can look like aaaaanything you want online. From all the filters and the transformative apps out there, people are able to live out their best lives virtually! :) and I get it! It’s fun! Innovative!

But don’t get caught up in the fantasy. Don’t get so caught up in this virtual, unachievable, expectational “standard”, that you lose sight of You.

So sure, go ahead! Go crazy with the puppy filters, lip fillers, wigs & weaves, Fenty Beauty highlighter, spray tans, and photoshop. But be sure to love who YOU are, not just the “image” you portray online.

Peace. ✌🏽😌

Getting Sh** Started!

It's actually difficult to do; to actually get things started. Well, for me, it is. I guess that can be considered an "excuse", but when...
